Openbravo ERP – Initial VM Evaluation

    Openbravo is an Open Source web-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The license is a variation of the Mozilla Public License. The Openbravo project is very popular and has more than 100 employees. The management team has an impressive lineup, including Cees Poortman who was the Managing Director of Navision Netherlands, Director for Microsoft Business Solutions and most recently responsible for defining the go-to-market strategy for Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur.

    So, the management looks good, they are getting lots of downloads, they have a decent client list, and are building a support network. There is also a POS system for those of you that want a POS system that integrates directly with your ERP system without a lot of custom integration. One thing that we particularly enjoy is their modeling of the most common business process flows. This is one of the difficult challenges with implementing and maintaining an ERP system and its integrations. The Openbravo project is standardizing on the Business Process Modeling Notation for diagramming their processes. Check out the Procedure To Pay diagram.

    We decided to use the appliance image to take a peek at Openbravo. Extract the VMware image:

    Select the image and open the virtual machine:

    Open up a web browser and point it at the IP address of the VM to get started. At the time of this article the default username is Openbravo and the default password is openbravo:
