After the reboot we get the logon screen:
This is localhost.(none) (Linux sparc64 2.4.27-sparc) 14:10:22 localhost login: root Password: login(pam_unix)[961]: session opened for user root by (uid=0) localhost root # INIT: Id "c1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes INIT: Id "c2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes INIT: Id "c3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes INIT: Id "c4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes INIT: Id "c5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes INIT: Id "c6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes |
Well, the messages are annoying. The problem is that getty (agetty) is having trouble with consoles on serial ports that aren’t really live. To fix this we need to modify /etc/inittab. Here is what it looks like:
# SERIAL CONSOLE c0:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 9600 ttyS0 vt100 # TERMINALS c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux c2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty2 linux c3:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty3 linux c4:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty4 linux c5:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty5 linux c6:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty6 linux # What to do at the "Three Finger Salute". ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -r now # Used by /etc/init.d/xdm to control DM startup. # Read the comments in /etc/init.d/xdm for more # info. Do NOT remove, as this will start nothing # extra at boot if /etc/init.d/xdm is not added # to the "default" runlevel. x:a:once:/etc/X11/startDM.sh # End of /etc/inittab |
We need to comment out the agetty lines:
# SERIAL CONSOLE c0:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 9600 ttyS0 vt100 # TERMINALS #c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux #c2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty2 linux #c3:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty3 linux #c4:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty4 linux #c5:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty5 linux #c6:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty6 linux |
